    House and Senate lawmakers are considering new legislation this week that would make permanent three expired tax incentives for charitable giving. The Supporting America's Charities Act (H.R.5806) includes the IRA charitable rollover, the enhanced deduction for donating land conservation easements and the enhanced deduction for donating food inventory.

    Please help us get these giving incentives made permanent by contacting your Members of Congress today.

    3 easy ways to help:

    • Send a message to your Representatives and Senators. Explain why they should support the permanent enactment of the charitable provisions in the Supporting America's Charities Act (H.R. 5806).

      Sample message: You are closer than ever before to making a historic investment in the nonprofit sector that could increase charitable contributions by tens of billions of dollars by making charitable tax incentives permanent in the Supporting America's Charities Act (H.R. 5806). Knowing the importance of charitable contributions for helping people in need and for building stronger communities, we urge you to continue to work toward completion of a tax package that includes the provisions of the Supporting America's Charities Act before the end of this year. The important tax provisions from the Supporting America's Charities Act, which are a source of bipartisan agreement, will provide essential tools that charitable nonprofits and foundations need to fulfill their missions. The impact on low-income Americans and underserved populations cannot be overstated. This is an opportunity to make a permanent investment in the nonprofit sector and be a champion for the underserved.

    • Tweet your own Members of Congress (House/Senate), as well as the leaders of both chambers and their powerful tax-writing committees.

      Sample tweet: "@SpeakerBoehner I support PERMANENT charitable tax extenders. Pass extenders now! #protectgiving"

      @SenatorReid
      @SenateFinance (Dems)
      @GOPSenFinance
      @RonWyden
      @OrrinHatch
      @SpeakerBoehner
      @WaysandMeansGOP
      @WaysMeansCmte (Dems)
      @RepDaveCamp
      @repsandylevin

    • Visit the Independent Sector resource center for ways to request your own meetings with lawmakers, send letters and emails, and make calls. To deliver the message about the importance of these provisions to your organization's work, you can use this toll-free number to reach your elected officials in Washington: (888) 398-8702. This resource is being made available to AHP as an Independent Sector member through the generosity of Feeding America.

    Thank you again for your support of efforts to safeguard federal tax incentives for charitable giving, including making permanent these tax provisions that play such a vital role for charitable organizations.
