Washington, D.C., (September 5, 2017) - The Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) announced today that Steven W. Churchill, MNA, will complete his service as the organization's president and chief executive officer in October, following the 2017 AHP Annual International Conference in New Orleans.

"We thank Steve for his dedicated service and leadership," said Jory Pritchard-Kerr, FAHP, chair of the AHP board of directors. "We hired Steve to be an agent of change, and during his tenure as president and CEO he has had a profound impact on the organization. Through this time of transition, AHP remains focused on executing its strategic plan to achieve its vision to be the definitive authority in health philanthropy."

Churchill has accepted an appointment as Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing to Ambassador Terry E. Branstad. The role will reunite him with long-time friend and associate Branstad, who previously served as Governor of Iowa and with whom Churchill has worked on several prior occasions. They most recently worked together at Des Moines University medical school, where Churchill served as vice president of development and alumni relations.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to lead AHP," said Churchill. "I am grateful to our visionary board of directors, our dedicated staff and inspiring members for all they do to advance the profession of health care philanthropy. While I am excited to pursue this once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity, I will miss interacting with AHP's caring and passionate community that does so much for health care in the United States and Canada."

In his new role, Churchill returns to the realm of public service, having previously served three terms in the Iowa House of Representatives.

AHP has begun the search process to identify its next president and CEO. A search committee, chaired by Fred Najjar, senior vice president of philanthropy at Dignity Health in San Francisco, California and member of the AHP board of directors, has been created and will engage a professional search firm to manage the process.

AHP will retain an interim president and chief executive officer to fill the position while the search for a permanent leader takes place. More information about the search will be shared with AHP members in the coming weeks.
